Years ago, you had to be a professional to make your own website. Now in 2009, you do not even need the slightest programming knowledge about HTML for example. There are lots of free websites out there which offer WYSIWYG-tools to create your own website instantaneously.
WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get. A WYSIWYG-environment offers you the same environment that any word processor such as Microsoft Office or OpenOffice would offer you. You can type in the text you want on your website, add a picture here, spice it up a bit there et voila; your website is ready.
In this article, I'll show you five free websites to start off with. Enjoy!
Webs
Webs, formerly known as Freewebs, is probably the most user-friendly WYSIWYG web builder of all time. You can create your own place on the Internet in just minutes. You can choose from more than 300 templates and you can then further customize the choosen template with your own logo.
Weebly
Easy web creation is the passion of the developers of Weebly, and when they say easy, they mean it. The core advantage of this site builder is its stunningly easy drag & drop website editor. You can simply add your videos, pictures and text by dragging it to your website. Simple as that! You can choose between 70 designs instead of 300 that Webs offers you, but they're very good looking. You can also customize them.
Wix
Wix isn't like the average WYSIWYG site builder. This website offers its users an easy to use drag and drop editor to make their website in minutes but there one thing that's very different: the sites are fully created in Flash, which makes for a stunning website! Just like Webs and Weebly, no technical skills are required. Also nice to know: the websites created with Wix are search engine friendly, which means that people will find your website easily via various search engines like Google and Bing.
Webnode
Webnode claims to offer a brand new way of creating and editing websites. You can edit your webpage real-time as you see it in your browser and again no technical skills are needed. With nothing to install or configure, you can focus on creating your webpage without a hassle. Webnode too supports drag-and-drop technology. Other features include gadgets, widgets, bookmarks, tagging, and much more!
Spruz
Spruz is the last website builder I'll describe. Upon navigating to their website, you'll be welcomed by a screen which will let you choose the theme of the website that you want to build. You can choose between a blog website, a church website, an e-commerce website, a realty website, a gaming website, a social networking website, a business website or a personal website. Their website platform has been structured with search engine visibility in mind, which means that people will find your website easily via various search engines like Google and Bing.
