Poetry: Spirituality

by Yolonda Milton

Ocean of tears...The shore is my altar...

The warmth of my anger, frustrations, and pain
have formed a salty ocean around me.
The weight of my burdens...
anchor me to the ocean floor.

Air is no longer available for me to breath,
my lungs are filled with bitterness and resentment.
I try to swim up,
but the enemies hands are around my feet.

I am drowning...

I have drowned...

Dead am I in this sea...

Breathing easy is now foreign...

Even in my own demise,
God whispers to me still.

Do you trust me?

Why have you forgotten me Lord?

Do you trust me?

Blood spills from my eyes,
the agony is that deep.
My body aches and quite often I can't sleep.
My tears have taken my life...

I'm drowning!
I've drowned!
I'm gone!
I'm done!
It's finished!
It's over!

What do you want from me?

My child... what is that you want from me?

Rescue me!

Do you trust me?

I DO!

It's not over until I say it's over!

All of my burdens I cast on you,
May your love and truth always protect me,
May my security be wrapped in you!

Free me from the worries of this 'ol world,
because this place is not my home!
My final destination is in your arms!

Breath life!

Guide me up from this ocean floor,
carry me to the shore.
There I will offer up a yet praise...

In spite my circumstances,
In spite of the pain,
I offer you a heart of thanksgiving,
And use my gifts to glorify your name.

The shore is my altar,
there I will go even when I'm overwhelmed with joy!
Remembering always how you saved me!
My tears aren't salty but sweet!
