I think that Cranium Cariboo is the best game ever! This educational children's game is targeted toward kids who are three and up. I have lots of fun playing it with both my two and six-year-old children.
The game board is made up of a blue plastic rectangular box that is fitted with a top equipped with about 15 flippable slots. There are three large holes on the game board above the slots. A purple container with a sliding top that allows you open and close it is attached to the side of the game board. There is a small hole at the bottom of the container top just like the three large holes at the top of the game board. On the top of the container next to the three holes on the game board sits a treasure box.
There is also a purple plastic key that is used to unlock the flippable slots with pictures underneath. The key is passed to the next player indicating that it is now their turn.
There are also two piles of cards, one says beginner and one says advanced. On the beginner cards are a variety of words with colors, shapes and numbers. For instance it might say 2, Two. Or there might be a triangle with the word triangle at the bottom. Maybe just a splash of red and the word red at the bottom, et cetera. The advanced cards have the words and colors with different numbers or shapes. For instance there might be a green triangle or a blue number two.
There are about six small colored balls which are stored in the purple container that's attached to the game board. Before the game begins, when all the slots are flipped down, the balls are dropped in the three circles at the top of the game board. They will roll around in the blue game box until they stop and take a position underneath six of the flippable slots.
The game begins when the first player flips over the first card. The player will look at which card they got, and try to match it to the cards on the game board. Once they find that match on the game board they will insert the key into a small hole at the top of that matching slot, which will then flip up. The now open slot will reveal a small cavern beneath it that may or may not contain one of the six balls. If the player does find a ball then they remove it from the cavern and place it into the hole on the purple container next to the game board. Their turn is then over and they will pass the key to the next player. If there is no ball beneath the slot their turn is over and they pass the key to the next player.
Each player will repeat this pattern
