Not everyone cooks with spices at home, However it is often surprising how many who do cook with spices, take only limited spices with they go camping. It is easy to set up a seasoning box specifically to take out camping. However, it is important to know what spices and flavorings to take.
Why even go to the bother of taking spices and flavorings out camping? The answer is that the spices enhance nearly anything they are used in, when cooking. Just as spaghetti sauce cooked at home tends to taste better with spices like oregano, sage, thyme, and basil, so too do the various things cooked in camp.
There is a temptation to say that any spices or flavorings normally used at home should be taken on the camp trip. However, this isn't necessarily true, as some spices and flavorings may be rarely used at home, so taking them may be simply adding to bulk of the camping supplies without adding to the benefits of taking them to camp. Let's break it down a little.
Salt
Salt has so many uses; salt is one thing that most campers plan to take with them. For those with sodium-restricted diets, ocean salt can be substituted for table salt. For many campers, salt is so important they will keep a small container in the glove box at all times.
Pepper

Pepper also furnishes an emergency radiator repair if the radiator springs a pinhole link. The pepper will swell in the hot water, plugging the leak. The radiator will later need to be flushed, but this can mean the difference between a breakdown and getting back to the nearest town.
Pepper also tends to deter many insects, including flies. For instance, many people have experienced those times when steak that isn't peppered is more likely to draw flies than steak with a light sprinkling of pepper.
Garlic and onion powder
Fresh garlic and onions can of course be taken out camping. You may also be able to find wild onions, garlic, or chives while camping. However, garlic and onion powder can be great additions, since they weigh so little. Use to season soups, stews, meats, potatoes, sauces, and even fish.
Dill
Dill can also sometimes be found growing wild. If you are planning to fish, though, this herb is fantastic for seasoning the fish. It doesn't take
