The question is,' "are we obligated to be moral?" Is it inherent within the human condition to conduct ourselves in a manor that expects positive and proper behavior? I feel that it is. In order for individuals to live within any organized social environment it is necessary to maintain a code of conduct that reflects common values, and offer disciplines that show consideration to all. And it does seems we naturally gravitate toward social grouping. So living together in some form of community is almost automatic, making the need for a strong moral compass the highest of priorities. It is that obligation to a higher conduct that prevents self-serving ideals from taking control over our life choices. It fosters the rational necessary to coexist in a social environment. Chaos should be left for the scientist and mathematicians. Let the theory of it all be confined to the of dynamics of the butterfly effect; and not be used as the basis for a social mandate. Morality is the tool that allows us to put aside those selfish goals for a greater good.
There may well be a higher order that demand some degree of reasonable behavior; the purpose of which is to direct the coarse of our nature. Seeing that the human race as a people are just not that well behaved proves there is a need for that internal compass. Without it the idea of every person for themselves starts to take root. Anarchy isn't just a concept; it's a movement! In order to maintain peaceful interaction amongst ourselves an ethical standard must exist. As strong as the obligation is toward morality, the temptation to surrender to what is easer is just as strong - at times stronger! We need that anchor to keep our social circles from drifting apart. Where that strength comes from may vary. Some see morality as a set of rules, while others feel it is based more on a set of principles. There are those that believe it is an individual determination, while others see morality as being taught by parents or society. Some say it finds it power in faith, God's hand guiding us; and then there are those who view it as a gift of spiritual enlightenment. Regardless of the source of the belief, the value system that is applied will influence how others will be treated.
Essentially the origin of an individuals Morality stems from one of two categories; forming from either an inductive philosophy or a conductive philosophy. Values formed of an inductive process are based on conclusions made from generalized information.
