I had some free time yesterday evening and after hesitating on which film to watch I decided to give a go for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I read a few reviews on it previously, so I was curious.
This comedy was directed by Nick Stoller. The classification is 15 years and over. There are some scenes with nude characters and sex actions.
Main Roles:
-
Sarah Marshall - Kristen Bell
Aldous Snow - Russell Brand
Peter Bretter - Jason Segel
Rachel Jensen - Mila Kunis
Brian Bretter (Peter's brother) - Bill Hader
Plot
-
Sarah Marshall is a very popular actress. She plays a role in Crime Scene police show. Peter Bretter is his boyfriend for five years. Peter is a composer he composes the music of the crime show Sarah plays in. Peter is quite bored with this job. He stays at home in complete disorder and its cereals all day. It seems that he has creative crisis.
One day Sarah calls him that she pops in. Peter hides all his clothes in the wardrobe and takes a shower. When he comes out Sarah is already there. She breaks up. Peter throws down the towel trying to convince Sarah not to break up with him. Sarah admits that she has someone else.
Peter's brother, Brian wants to help him. Takes him out and gives him advice. After several one night stands he goes to Hawaii. He tries to forget Sarah but it seems to be impossible. On the airplane Sarah wishes good flight for the passengers. He goes exactly the same hotel where Sarah and his new boyfriend, Aldus Snow stay. Aldus is a very popular rock star.
Peter is just talking to the beautiful receptionist Rachel when Sarah and Aldus appear. Rachel offers a free room for Peter as he can't afford the price of the hotel. First Peter follows Sarah and Aldus but later he founds that he can't avoid meeting them. He is very lonely and sad seeing them together.
The staff of the hotel is mainly of locals. They all know about Peter and Sarah. They try to help him forgetting Sarah. Even Rachel tries to help him. After a dinner where Peter, Rachel, Sarah and Aldus sat at the same table things have changed. And yes, you guessed it: I won't continue the story from this point on.
My opinion
-
I have to admit that there were some really funny plots in it. I liked the yoga session for example or the sex competition of the couples. I also laughed out loud when Aldus taught sex techniques to the just married man. These were really funny scenes but there weren't enough for me. I have seen better films this one wasn't funny enough for me.
The actors played very well their rolls. Rachel was my favourite. She had a very nice, helpful and sensitive character so it was pleasant playing this role. It fitted Mila Kunis very well. She is a beautiful and talented actress.
Peter's character was too noddy, goose and dud for me. He wasn't even handsome. I saw him nude several times in the film but he couldn't pique my attention.
I didn't like Aldus at all. I don't like Russel Brand either. He had some funny scenes and played the popular rock star very well. I just don't like his style.
Brian had little role. He wanted to influence his brother. He had a boring character. Bill Hader was a perfect match for this role.
I left Sarah Marshall to the end. Kristen Bell is a very beautiful and talented actress. She had to play an overzealous actress who is very popular. She has undertaken all the possibilities that have arisen to be on screens and on the front page of newspapers. Her character is not very likeable. Although she had to play a difficult role she managed it very well.
The music was okay sometimes, occasionally even funny. I liked the scenes in Hawaii...
So to sum up, I didn't regret the time I spent on watching it but nobody can convince me to watch it again. It was better than Knocked up but far from my favourites.
