Fall craft projects for the yard

Fall craft projects are easy. The yard is ordinarily bleak during winter and a few fall crafts will add interest. Birds will most often be the beneficiaries. Those whose habits are not to migrate to warmer climates will need bird feeders and other purposeful enhancements. Give time to these creations and put your individual stamp on them. Don't just carelessly tie pots of food to tree branches but feed your birds in style. If at all possible follow the general theme of your residence and have your yard an extension of its quiet beauty and not an eyesore.

If you garden in your backyard make sure your constructions such as compost bins and piles of tomato stakes are either carefully stored in sheds or are arranged neatly. A pile of branches might not be so unsightly if collected in a large decorative barrel and tied with a cheery bright left over outside Christmas ribbon. Place this arrangement at the corner of your fenced lot and see how much more attractive this will be than if they are randomly stacked. The idea is to have a well balanced winter landscape and although bleak, not out of proportion.

A few rugged statues, either constructed by you from whimsical logs and branches, will add interest to a log cabin or an old house. A collection of scarecrows with different attitudes might just be the thing for a backyard garden that substitutes as somewhat of a museum during winter times. Children on their way to and from school will be delighted with the collection. Invite your neighbors to loan you theirs for the winter wonderland show. Just imagine the scene when you wake to a winter wonder land some morning. Scarecrows acting as snowmen!

Benches and large pots of Ivy add interest to dull and drab backyards. Place these winter hardy plants where they will be seen and where they will say to passersby that the people living inside are good caretakers of their property. Whatever the status of the landscape outside your door, it probably can be enhanced with a little care. This goes for the front yard to the back yard. Liven up your front yard with making sure your front porch still looks inviting. White rattan furniture on the porch or small metal filigreed chairs on either side of a front door add interest. A well kept mail box with an attractive display corresponding to the season says much about your abundant lifestyle.

Winter time is the ideal time to survey and take note of your yard. The trees are bare and you can see where they need be trimmed come February - consult with Extension services for best time to do this - and where to plan your summer display of flowers and grass. It is also the best time to build fences, repair fences and to add structural improvements and to fix what needs fixing. You being frugal will find whimsical uses for left over materials and why not construct a walk in play house for grandchildren, a tree house, or a tree swing.

Crafting for the yard begins in the fall with putting away and cleaning gardening tools and repairing lawn mowers but extends into winter. Once the maintenance chores are over craft projects will take over and will last until spring time. It not only gives reasons to be outside in any kind of weather, crafting is an excellent way to enjoy the bleak winter months. You will no longer need to keep your shutters closed to block out the dreary landscape; you will find time to open them to survey your efforts from time to time.
