Kids need to know about search engine optimization (SEO), so other kids can find their blogs and visit their pages on social sites. When kids upload videos, images and music using SEO, Google and other search engines bring more visitors to that webpage. Kids who use SEO get more comments on their blog posts, more viewers to their videos and more users of their online music players.
A kid who wants to learn how to use search engine optimization, or an adult teaching kids to use SEO, can do this easily when they understand what is involved.
1. You need to know how to find the best performance words for SEO.
The words you use for SEO, the ones you write in your titles and tags and repeat in your descriptions and blog posts, are known as keywords.
A keyword can be one single word, or a keyword can be formed of a few words that make a question or a search phrase. When any of these keywords exactly matches wording typed into a Google search box, or used at any search engine, your link shows up in the results.
- If you post about music, use the name of the performer or the band as a keyword. if you reviews music or movies, you can use the title of the track or the name of the movie as a keyword.
- Use keywords that describe what you are posting. When posting an image or description of an animal, one keyword should include the type of animal, say a "Newfoundland puppy", and other keywords could describe what it is about, "dog training", and "how to train your puppy".
- Use a free online keyword suggestion tool to find the best words for your own tags, titles and text. Also think of words you might type in yourself at Google, if you were searching for information about the subject or person you are posting about.
2. You need to know how to use keywords for SEO.
The exact same keywords used in the title and tags should be repeated in a description, or in the blog post. Try to use the same keywords a few times in anything you write, but avoid using keywords too many times or your post will not make sense.
Each time you write a blog post, upload a video, an image or a piece of audio, you have the opportunity to add some tags, write a brief description and to give it a title. Using good keywords in each of these is very important for SEO.
* The title is a sort of headline, advertising what exactly it is you are posting.
* Tags are signposts to show what the content is about.
* A description provides information that will make people want to click on a link to see what you have posted.
What all kids need to remember about SEO is to use the best keywords each time they post anything on their blogs and webpages. Search engine optimization will make those pages and posts more popular, because SEO makes it easier for other kids to find.
