Protector of the Book of Scare

Lola slowly opened the tattered, leather bound book that sat on the edge of her desk. She was a little rusty in the area of casting spells these days and she wanted to be sure she got this one right. A few mistakes were to be expected, but turning your beloved cat into a stone statue was a bit off course, and time was running out.

From the looks of it, she would need to stop by the Witchery and pick up a few things she didn't have on hand. She couldn't find a pen so she'd have to make due. She aimed her fingertip at the pad of paper. "Let's see" she said out loud. "I'm out of protective potion, hair of dog, and tail of rat and I better grab a couple eye of newts too." Putting her fingertip away, she folded the list she'd made and stuck it in the pocket of her black cloak. As she headed out the back door she yelled, "Whiskers, I'm leaving but I'll be back soon. Oh and by the way, don't let any strangers in."

The dark, black cloud that followed her wasn't a coincidence. It was Madar, the evil sorcerer, hard at work again. Her life was now in danger. He had began to track her every move many moons ago and it was beginning to unnerve her.

Luckily, she found everything on her list was in stock at the Witchery. The clerk even threw in a bottle of warning potion after hearing Lola's story. Pour it around the outside your house on clear night when the stars shine brightly she urged. Lola assured her she was would be okay and appreciated her concern, and the free bottle of potion.

Madar was a sorcerer gone rogue. And although she wasn't certain, Lola assumed he was after the Book of Scare, one of the most powerful books in the history of witchcraft. The possessor of this book could, if they wanted, forever change the world. Lola had been commissioned at a very young age to protect this book from finding it's way into the wrong hands. Hands like Madar's.

The mirrors in her house warned her of his arrival, candles flickered uncontrollably and Whiskers ran under the bed. She could feel his presence. Fortunately, she had been able to issue the warning spell earlier. Although it didn't stop him from intruding, his powers were restricted. She clutched the garnet stone that dangled from a chain around her neck giving her a boost of additional protection and strength.

"What do you want with me Madar? I feel your presence. I know you're here." she shouted as she cast a simple spell to ward off unwelcome visitors. " Enter not into my home, unwelcome here, you will not roam."
