Just So You Know

Just so you know
I do love you.

I know I don't often show it.
Not in grand gestures or words
But it is there.
It is always there.

We have had some trials in our relationship.
But we are mother and daughter
That is the natural order of things.
It doesn't mean that the unbreakable bond between us will ever be broken.

I know that you sometimes look at me and think that I am not interested in what you say.
It's not that.
It's just that it's not always easy to hear it.
But like everyone else, you need someone to talk to,
That is only fair.
There is no reason why it can't be me.

There is a wealth of goodness inside you,
A never ending depth of forgiveness and love.
Don't ever be afraid to release that.
It is what makes you who you are.

You are my mother
I am your daughter.
There is a strength in that.
It is something that will last.

I always wanted to call you mum
But was scared of siblings thinking I wanted to sound posh.
So I call you mam.
I used to call you mammy when I was little,
Sometimes that was shortened to ma.

It doesn't matter what I called you in the long run
What matters is that you answered.
