Making time to write

Making the time to write isn't always as easy as some may think. If you work and\or run a household, have kids, and other things that keep you busy, you may find that writing is the last thing you have time for. Personally, I find myself writing at the most inappropriate times, for example, I was at work one night, and on my way to the washroom, I overheard a conversation that I thought I could use for a story, and as I was in the stall, I pulled the pen out of my pocket, and writing my ideas on a piece of toilet paper.

I find that I have to try to schedule writing time in my every day life. Right now, it's early, I got up early for the sole purpose of writing for an hour or two. But, no everyone can do that. I have come up with a few hints to help others try to make time to write, even for a half hour a day.

1) Carry a pen and paper in your purse or bag. Anytime you get an idea, jot it down, and it is very important, because the best ideas come when you least expect it, and if you don't write them down right away, you may forget, and that would be a shame.

2) Schedule a half hour a day to write. If you work, take a few minutes during your lunch, or after supper, or while you are in bed, to just write. It doesn't have to be a full story or essay, just make sure to at leat organize your thoughts, or any ideas you may have at that time.

3) Write about what you know. As I go through the marketplace and debates on helium, I find that I don't know much about some of the topics, so I try to research some of them, but if I am not comfortable writing about them, even after researching, I don't write. The best articles come from personal opinion and experiences. If you know a lot about Scrap booking, and nothing about buying a house, write about the Scrap booking, then you can spend time researching and when you feel comfortable, try the other topics.

4) Quality, not quantity. Writing a 4000 word article is awesome, if you are writing about the topic, and not just rambling on. Write about the topic, write about the things that matter, and you will be great.

So get writing, organize your thoughts, make time to do it, and enjoy yourself.
