The concept of the Trinity is contrary to Jewish/Christian fundamental belief systems. To understand how it became centerfold to Christendom religion though one must examine the history of the Trinity and how it developed into Christian philosophy.
Many centuries before the time of Christ, there were triads, or trinities, of gods in ancient Babylonia and Assyria. The French "Larousse Encyclopedia of Mythology" notes one such triad in that Mesopotamian area: "The universe was divided into three regions each of which became the domain of a god. Anu's share was the sky. The earth was given to Enlil. Ea became the ruler of the waters. Together they constituted the triad of the Great Gods." It was well known that the first group of people to follow a monotheistic model were the Israelites The concept of the Trinity was not instituted in Christian faith until the 3rd Century AD by the Council of Nicea that was ordered by the Emperor Constantine. Constantine was not a Christian, he professed Christianity but was not baptized until right before his death. His main interest in presiding over the Council of Nicea was to unify his kingdom under one belief system. The two schools of thought developing over the divinity of Christ was threatening the existence of his Kingdom. He had no special qualifications, other then being the Leader of an Empire, to preside over a religious gathering.
Not all of the Bishops in the Council agreed with the Trinity philosophy and the debate was extremely heated between the two sides. In the end though the Emperor won out and the Trinity was introduced at that time as a core Christian belief. Nowhere in the Bible does the word Trinity commit itself as worshiping three people in one, yet Paul did predict this would happen to some extent:
"The time is sure to come when, far from being content with sound teaching, people will be avid for the latest novelty and collect themselves a whole series of teachers according to their own tastes; and then, instead of listening to the truth, they will turn to myths."2 Timothy 4:3, 4, JB.
Jesus and God knew there would be corruption of their teachings and they warned us in order to protect us from false belief systems. Below you will see other secular sources quoted confirming the above information:
The New Encyclopedia Britannica says: Neither the word Trinity, nor the explicit doctrine as such, appears in the New Testament, nor did Jesus and his followers intend to contradict the Shena in the Old Testament:
