Apple has released a ground-breaking audio device the world has never seen before; the iPod. You just really can't get enough of the amazingly clear sound it offers and you keep downloading songs to it. But what happens when you want to replace some songs or even import some new ones but the space is not enough? Deleting songs from your favorite iPod is a fairly easy job. All you have to do is to follow the following steps.
Open iTunes
If you do not already have it installed, download the latest iTunes software from the Apple official website. Open iTunes and connect your iPod via the USB 2.0 or FireWire 400 cable to a high-speed port of your computer. Once your computer detects your iPod, iTunes will start sync to it displaying all the songs it contains.
On the top of the main iTunes menu, you will find an 'edit' tab; click on it and then on 'preferences'. Click on your iPod and hit on the 'music' tab. Choose to manually organize your songs on your music library so as to choose which songs you want to remove.
Small tip: if you have the same songs as in your iPod, just click on the music 'tab'. But, if the songs you want to delete are only in your iPod and not in your iTunes library, then click on the 'owner's iPod' tab. This way, you will display all the audio tracks you have installed in your iPod. Of course, this option is visible only after you have successfully connected your iPod.
Next, find the song you want to erase, hit the delete button on your keyboard and you are done! In case you want to erase more songs, then highlight them all by holding down the CTRL key while clicking on the ones you want to remove and press delete. You now have free space to add more new tracks!
Remember to always erase the unwanted files from your music library and not just from your iPod! If you skip that step, the next time you will plug in your iPod, it will automatically sync with your iTunes library reinstalling from scratch the unwanted songs.
This procedure will turn out to be very handy to you as gradually you will need to free some space on your iPod. Of course, deleting songs from your iPod via iTunes does not mean that you will delete them also from your computer's hard-drive, meaning you can reinstall them anytime! Good luck!
