Reduce Your Allergies This Spring

Some people have allergies to some things and some people have allergies almost everything. Then there are those that have seasonal allergies every year when the flowers start to bud and the trees start to green again. I am referring to that time of the year called springtime. During the spring people with allergies means sneezing, runny nose, and congestion or other signs and symptoms. In spring with its wind borne pollen from trees and on those hot dry windy days with there's a mixture of pollen, pollution, and mold in the air you best stay inside. But if you are like everyone else you have to step out your door and go to work and bring home the money. But before you dig up all you flowers and cut down all you trees try reducing your exposure to pollen any way you can.

If you don't have to go to work on those dry windy days stay indoors.

If you want to go outside and you can wait until after a good rain that would be a good time to go outside.

If you can have someone other than you to cut the grass, pull weeds, or other outside chores this will decrease your allergies from getting stirred up.

Remove the clothes you've worn outside as quickly as possible and place them in the washer. Then shower or rinse off any pollen that may be on your skin or hair.

Don't allow your pet on your bed or couch because pollen can cling to their fur.

If you do have to perform outside chores wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth.

Check your TV or radio for the local forecast for the current pollen levels before you step out the door.

Keep your windows and doors closed anytime pollen counts are at its highest.

Avoid going out early in the morning that is usually when pollen counts are at its highest point.

Always run your air conditioning in your car and home.

Use a micron allergy filter in your ventilation system.

Keep indoor air dry with a dehumidifier.

Vacuum floors with a vacuum that has a particle or HEPA filter.

Use a HEPA air filter in your bedroom and all throughout the house.

Cover box spring, mattresses, and pillow cases in allergy proof covers.

Wash your clothes in water heated to at least 130 F or higher to kill any dust mites.
