"Reach of Branches" is a green sorcery spell printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Morningtide." Morningtide introduced a dynamic of "tribes" in which certain creature types and/or sub-types worked with each other. The cards were designed to entice players to build decks around this one dynamic. One example would be the tribe of treefolk. Reach of Branches is one of those spells that encourages players to build around a tribe of creatures let alone treefolk.
The converted mana cost for Reach of Branches would be five. You would need one green mana and four colorless mana to play Reach of Branches. For what Reach of Branches can do, the five mana is worth it. Keep in mind that green has the best mana acceleration out of all five colors. That is something to think about. Since this is an instant spell, you can cast Reach of Branches at any given time.
What does Reach of Branches do in the first place?
By playing Reach of Branches, you get to put a 2/5 green treefolk shaman token onto the battlefield. In this respect, you can play this spell at any time and put a 2/5 green treefolk before the start of your turn. That itself alone is an excellent ability. But, there is more to Reach of Branches.
Whenever a Forest cards comes onto the battlefield under your control, you can return Reach of Branches to your hand. In this respect, you can cast Reach of Branches again. As long as you are dropping Forests onto the battlefield, you can keep bringing back and casting Reach of Branches. With the right combination of cards, you should be able to build a sizable army of these 2/5 treefolk shaman tokens.
One can ask this: How do you get the most out of this ability?
One method would be using "Doran, the Siege Tower" which is a legendary treefolk shaman. When Doran, the Siege Tower enters the battlefield, creatures deal damage equal to their toughness points instead of their power points. With Reach of Branches, you can create an army of creatures that can deal at least five points of damage. Having enough creatures that can deal five points of combat damage definitely goes a long way.
Overall, Reach of Branches is a good sorcery card. Make sure you have green cards let alone Forests. With cards like Doran, the Siege Tower, Reach of Branches generates a powerful army of attackers.
