Magic the Gathering card analysis: Taurean Mauler

"Taureen Mauler" is a 2/2 red shapeshifter creature card printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Morningtide." So far, it seemed to be popular enough to be reprinted for the special set known as "Planechase." From the looks of Taureen Mauler, you would want to put this in an aggressive deck for the most part. In a free-for-all game, Taureen Mauler is definitely a great card to have for the most part.

The converted mana cost for Taureen Mauler is three. You will need one red mana and two colorless mana to bring Taureen Mauler from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Taureen Mauler can do, the casting cost is well worth it. However, it helps if you can get Taureen Mauler onto the battlefield early enough.

What does Taureen Mauler do in the first place?

The first thing about Taureen Mauler is that it has the ability called Changeling. In this respect, it is a blessing and a curse at the same time. Changeling means that the Taureen Mauler is every creature type at all times. It is a soldier, an elf, a rogue, and so forth. If you have enchantments or creatures with abilities that boost up certain creature types, the Taureen Mauler will reap the benefits.

At the same time, it will be susceptible to spells and abilities that target certain creature types. In one instance, it could get Exiled by "Undead Slayer." Undead Slayer has the ability in which it can Exile a target zombie, skeleton, or vampire. Since Taureen Mauler is also a zombie, skeleton, and vampire, it can get Exiled by the Undead Slayer. This is perhaps the one weakness of the Undead Slayer. Since it also counts as a demon and a dragon, Taureen Mauler cannot go up against "Baneslayer Angel."

The main ability is this: Taureen Mauler gets a +1/+1 counter whenever an opponent casts a spell. In this respect, you just let your opponents cast spells. Each spell cast by an opponent equals a +1/+1 counter on the Taureen Mauler.

There are means to get a lot out of the Taureen Mauler. One would be taking advantage of its Changeling ability. In a multicolored deck, you could put this in a bunch of soldiers, elves, and so forth. One example would be grouping Taureen Mauler with "Cenn's Tactician." Since the Taureen Mauler is also a soldier due to the Changeling ability, you can use Cenn's Tactician to put more +1/+1 counters on it.

This is pretty much a card that is meant to be played aggressively. Taureen Mauler is a pretty good card for the most part. If you are playing aggressively, you will definitely get a lot out of the Taureen Mauler.
