He comes to me, on wings of dreams
Dreaded beast of ancient lore
Scales gleaming, iridescent silver, gold
Monstrous silhouette against a shining moon
Talons to savage, flames to sear
Roars that rend the night
Cannot obscure the noble soul
The raging of a tempestuous heart
From legend's promise he seduces
With magic gems, enchanted pearls he lures
Sorcery's weapons he freely wields
As proof against a mortal's dark despair
Only trust, unswerving childlike faith
His titanic, wondrous powers will unleash
And while I've offered up my throat, laid bare my heart
Cradled the fearsome head close to my breast
Still I see his lustrous eyes grow dark with blighted hope
The earth shudders as it echoes with his sorrow
For in my human frailty, I rend that great, heroic heart
As surely as his gargantuan voice the night
So simple a charge he placed before me
Relied upon his faith in one so flawed
Had he but said, "Stand fast beside me in the face of death"
This peril I'd meet with quaking form
Yet none so foreboding a task he set me
'Twas merely, "persevere"
Hold tight to hope in times of trial
Believe our souls were meant to meld
With love and unmatched tenderness
He renews his vow to cherish
I once more with quivering flesh
Affirm my heart's intent
Dawn's light reveals a shimmering trail
Crystalline fragments shatter with the demands of Day
These I'll once more face with lightened heart
As I await anew the coming of enchanted Night
