Tips for avoiding divorce

The only way to avoid divorce is to not get married in the first place. I hear you, harrumphing out there. It's a joke, meant to lighten the mood. With millions of marriages ending in divorce, you either have to trust your feelings, and understand that marriage is a lot of hard work, and get in there and fight for your right to stay married.

That is scary when you get married and things don't work as you planned them. But there is hope, because many millions of couples do work it out and do not get divorced. Many couples do live together, happily ever after.

Here are the steps to avoiding divorce:

Step one; when you get married you must understand that you have signed a contract with God, with your partner and with the law. You must take your contract seriously and vow to stay with your marriage partner for your entire life. Marriage is serious business, and not meant to be entered into as a joke, or a wedding in Las Vegas on a drunken weekend spree that was officiated by an Elvis imitator. Whatever happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas, is not a good rule to live by. Step two is the realization that marriage is hard work. Anything worth it's salt today, is worth working hard for. You need to realize is that every marriage will have bad times. There will be tough economic times when you are broke or when one partner is ill. But you have to remember that you signed a contract and you must stick with it. When you have discovered that your partner has an affair, or has a drug problem; that needs to be worked out also.

Step three is realizing that marriage is a true partnership, it is when two people get married, and stay together for life, to work as a team against whatever comes their way. It's kind of like you are a crime fighting duo, one person is Superman, and the other person is Superwoman. You team up because you are in love, and are fighting together against unseen enemies .The unseen enemy forces, can be a dead end job, a gambling problem, alcoholism, in-law problems, and so on. Thus, you will look to your partner to help you get through the bad times as well as the good

Counseling may be needed for the couple that can't work out the truly impossible problems in their marriage. When it becomes too much to handle such as one partner having a drug problem or
