Meeting you was fate, becoming your wife was a choice but falling in love with you is magical....
I remembered the first day when i saw him at the door of our boarding house in Cebu,Philippines in 1977. He just look at me when I asked him what he wanted, pushed the door and get in..He became my board mate for six months. In September 1977 he wrote in a page of my notebook I like you.. From then on, I started evading him for fear that my parents will discover of any relationship that we might have. Finals came with two drawing plates remaining , sought his help but he choose to watched movies instead of helping me out..As a peace offering he left a bar of peanut cake in my study table, before he left home. He graduated his Maritime transportation degree in October 1977 and lost sight of him thereafter.
We had the chance to meet again in 1980 when he visited his sisters who were then my board mates on his way back to Manila for another shipboard assignment overseas.
While on board, he kept on sending postcards of every port in the world he traveled, letters came every now and then but studies was my top priority and simply ignored it all. Finished my degree in Chemical engineering in 1982 and met him again after the wedding of his eldest sister, but unfortunately romance was blooming between him and my land lady's daughter. Out of respect, i have taken the side step and had to concentrate to prepare myself for the board exams. While taking the board exams in Manila in November 1982 we got the chance to be closer mutual understanding unfolds.
In December of 1982, I was luckily accepted to work in National Steel Corporation in Iligan, Philippines and he left for a new vessel assignment for career break as an Officer. The challenges of a long distance relationship sits in, communication was a major problem then, snail mails came only every 3months, and my letters to him was not mailed by my land lady's sister whom I asked favor to post it for me because I am at work. Again the relationship was in limbo..but life goes on.
Years passed and we continued to live separate lives, and in one of his vacations while in the province some ladies planned to trapped him, and his father was clever enough to send him back to Manila. Over the grapevine heard of his womanizing activities.
Had the chance to met him again in 1984 during one of my stop overs in Cebu, Philippines but we were both not available then.
Again in December of 1985 letters and postcards keep coming, and I choose to give this man a chance, a beautiful romance is in the brewing.
December 1986 was the turning point of our relationship, where our eyes said everything to each other. The most eloquent silence.........where only love existed. Actually, there is no remedy for love but to love more. Whenever I meet him.... I feel the same charm as I felt on the first day.
Decided to moved to Manila in January of 1987, before he left for another shipboard assignment to improve our communication lines when he is away. Staying in love is not a matter of chance it needs a lot of working out to keep the fire burning..
The wedding came in May 30 1988 to start a new adventure in life together.
Its been 21 years since the time we exchange I dos and so far life is good for us, our relationship blossomed so well and we proved them all wrong. A long distance relationship can succeed with hard work and perseverance. You've been a good husband, good father, caring lover and my best friend. Our love, faith and trust in the Almighty served as our guiding light. Thank you for being part of my life's wonderful journey and I promised to love you and stand by you till the end of time.
