Reflections: Possible fixes for the declining US economy

The title to this article alone amuses me to no end. There is no denying the fact that our nation is in an economic downfall, and right now it does not seem to be getting better anytime soon, and yes the reality is that everyone wants there to be a fix to have our nation not be in the position that it is in. But there are other realities to the circumstances that I don't hear a lot of people acknowledge.

Everyone, from businesses to the common man are waiting for a fix to the decline of the United States economy, and are wondering where it is going to come from and what it is that it will do for them individually. No one seems to be looking at the situation from a new point of view. Is it really the sole responsibility of the government to fix this problem? I mean let's be realistic about that statement.

Isn't it the government that put us into this situation to begin with, no not with our current president but those that were in office before him, and now we are all turning to our current president to fix a problem that has been being created for years on end.

When the tragedy of 9-11 happened, our Nation was outraged and devastated by the losses that we as a Nation had to endure that tragic day. That day loved ones were lost, and heroes were born, and our Nation stood as one ready to fight terrorists at any cost. We as a Nation were one, as this day color, religion, sexual preference and gender didn't matter, and we as a people were outraged by what happened.

More flags were being flown in everyone's front yards and on our vehicles. There was a pride in our Nation that had not been seen or felt for some time. But it took a tragedy for our Nation to pull back together as one, so why is it that in this economic time of need, the people of our Nation are not pulling together as one?

In the face of diversity and tragedy we can be one Nation, but in a time of need we want to place blame, and point fingers at anyone and everyone other then ourselves to find resolution. This was once a great Nation and I believe in my heart of hearts that we can be a great Nation again. However, I also believe that the day of greatness will not come if we as a people lack the ability to help ourselves out, and stop having a co-dependency on others to fix our problems.

Have we as a people become so spoiled by what it is that our Government can do for us that we do not allow ourselves to be able to do for ourselves? Our priorities
