Video game reviews: Iron Man (Xbox 360)

If you know video games, you know there are some titles destined to be flea market or pawn shop titles. Even some who aren't such avid gamers know there is just some titles to steer clear of. This is one of them. Most games that are based on movies don't have very high sales, and some just outright bomb. A lot of movie-based games assume that the player knows the plot, which can spell confusion to some. This one is a little different. Thanks to today's technology the game is inter-woven with cut-scenes from the movie, These are key scenes that are supposed to set up your next mission, which oddly seems a lot like the last mission... hmmm. Now granted this game does have some cool features, like the suit upgrades. If there's one thing that improves a linear fighting game, it's upgrades. In a game where all you do is smash things and blow stuff up, it's nice to have something to work for. You can upgrade all aspects of Iron Man's suit, from weapons and flight to health and defence.

Gameplay: Iron Man was cool at first, as I was eager to see what my suit could do, using a flame-thrower on terrorists was fun, and the advent of decent upgrades was intriguing. But once I found out my suit only did so much, I ran out of terrorists and the upgrades didn't do much, I started to lose interest really fast. Every mission is the same. You fly around and pick off tanks and helicopters from the sky or focus on a main boss character, still shooting or smashing. There's no variety to the gameplay. There is one thing I did like, and that's the ability to re-route the suit's power to different areas of the suit if needed. That was if you were low on health, you can switch main power to life support and regenerate, or switch to weapons for a more powerful blow. Overall I'm willing to give the gameplay a 2/5 as it did have some cool features but overall was stagnant and lacked originality.

Story: This game is based off a movie with a pre-existing storyline. Having seen that pre-existing storyline and being quite fond of it, I must say this aspect of the game was high on my priority list. They follow the storyline of the movie through the cut-scenes and some of the missions, although the missions are just drawn-out versions of the battles in the movie and get old real fast. The actual storyline to this game is a great one to tell; however, they didn't do the best job at telling it. Storyline 2/5. They could have done a better job at making things cohesive and interesting. The actual
