A Queen Crowned King
the heat radiates from the ground
the air so still not making a sound
midsumber hits us with the memory
a soul stolen out of our life
a pain of losing her cuts like a knife
everything crashed down on us that night
screams echoing filled with shock and fright
her face froze in a mask of calm
shocked well into the breaking of dawn
we all stayed awake sleep escaping us
leaders we looked upon broke our trust
a cry for help ignored, dismissed
uncaring eyes look at our clenched fists
ignoring our grief and astonishment
they gave us only one day to cry
hid their faces behind a lie
but we will never forget our friend
she was an angel only God could send
