Poetry: You had to go

by Erica Thomas

Created on: October 25, 2009

A Queen Crowned King

the heat radiates from the ground

the air so still not making a sound

midsumber hits us with the memory

a soul stolen out of our life

a pain of losing her cuts like a knife

everything crashed down on us that night

screams echoing filled with shock and fright

her face froze in a mask of calm

shocked well into the breaking of dawn

we all stayed awake sleep escaping us

leaders we looked upon broke our trust

a cry for help ignored, dismissed

uncaring eyes look at our clenched fists

ignoring our grief and astonishment

they gave us only one day to cry

hid their faces behind a lie

but we will never forget our friend

she was an angel only God could send
