My Beloved Mayfield Home
I came across an article written by a paranormal society and discovered it was about a home I had lived in, owned and loved. This home is in Mayfield NY, and I and my family had lived there for 7 wonderful and challenging years, from 1989 till 1996. I had lived there with my mom, grandmother, and little dog, until I felt it was necessary to sell the house, due to factors I could no longer control
At the time I decided to sell the house my family and I had been running an antique shop for six years in this house. At the point that I felt we had to move I was running the antique shop by myself. I no longer had any family to help me. Both my mom and grandmother were ill and as it turned out they did not have much longer to live. (Grandma passed away before the house was sold. Mom within a year after)
It had started taking up to twelve hours a day just for business related to the shop and running the shop. Then the responsibility for the care of the home had to be factored in as well. This home had four acres of land to take care of and that include mowing the lawn, raking the leaves, and removing the snow. All the things we all have to do if we own a house. On top of this I also had to maintain four gardens, and there were thirteen rooms that had to be cleaned and taken care of. This was not a small house or property.
The thing that tip the scales to being too much for me was the increasing care of my mother and grandmother who were both ill. It was getting overwhelming for me to do everything that needed to be done. I didn't feel like I was giving all the time needed to everything that needed to be done.
The decision to sell was one of the most difficult one I had ever made. My family loved this home, even the dog! When I bought the house for my family we all felt this is where we would all live the rest of our lives.
My family were practicing spiritualists and we believed in the spirit world and the after life. So when we encountered paranormal activity in our new home it did not bother us. It intrigued us and sometimes it was bothersome but always interesting. Different things seemed to happen repeatedly in different parts of the house.
We found out when we first moved into our home that there had never been a child, animal, or even a picture on the walls. We had a dog when we moved there and of course we wanted pictures on the walls. We had no children but our home became a popular hang out for the kids when we opened an antique shop.
