Who is God?

Who is god? Good question.

This is an interesting question that people have been trying to answer for hundreds of years. Ever since the concept of monotheism came into light, everyone has been trying to define what God is or is not.

Some faiths believe that God is a great spirit with no physical form that simply creates and watches over his creations with a complete sense of indifference. His followers worship him as they can and this God enjoys this worship, but offers nothing in return.

To some faiths, God is a male counter-part to the Goddess. His job is to serve the Goddess, mate with her in the spring, die in the fall, and be re-born in the winter. He is the representative of the cycle of life, death, and re-birth. Often he reminds everyone of their own mortality and many celebrations are held in his honor.

To some faiths, he is a vengeful old man that demands complete obedience from his followers. He sets out ten rules that must be followed and inspires men to write books of his exploits to remind them how jealous and vengeful he can be. These books are filled with examples of his wrath ranging from killing first-born males to destructions of entire cities to the complete flooding of the world. This God means business and wants people to fear him as they worship. But, rest assured, he still loves you.

To some faiths, God is very male. He created man (not woman, just man) in his physical image. Woman was created to serve man and they were the source of Original Sin. Men lead and rule under the worship of this God and women serve. These kinds of faith worked rather well when there were female-dominated faiths in the area that needed to be removed.

Some faiths believe that their God is a great teacher offering insights on how to love each other and find peace within their selves. Unfortunately, sometimes His teachings can be misinterpreted to do harm to those that dare follow other faiths. Many a great war has been fought in this God's name.

All of these definitions of who this God person is can be considered right and wrong. God is what you make of him. Something as big and powerful as God probably doesn't care what faith anyone has. He (or she or it) is probably just content to have any faith.
