"Notorious Throng" is a blue sorcery spell printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Morningtide." This is one of the types of spells that is known as a "tribal sorcery." It is a spell designed to help out a certain creature type. With respect to Notorious Throng, it is built around rogue creatures. If you build a deck around rogues, you may get use out of Notorious Throng. Make sure you make a black and blue aggressive-control deck built around faeries and rogues.
The converted mana cost for Notorious Throng is four. You need to pay one blue mana and three colorless mana to cast Notorious Throng. For what this spell can do, the converted mana cost is very reasonable enough. Since this is a sorcery spell, you can only play this during your turn.
What does Notorious Throng do in the first place?
To start things off, this is one of the tribal-themed cards that have an alternative Prowl cost. In this case, the Prowl cost is higher. The Prowl cost for Notorious Throng is one blue mana and five colorless mana making it a total of six. One could get turned off by the higher cost. But, the Prowl cost is very well worth it for the most part. This can only be activated if you deal combat damage with a rogue to another player.
When Notorious Throng is cast, you get to put X 1/1 black faerie rogue tokens onto the battlefield. They have Flying. X is equal to the number of damage points dealt to your opponents this turn. If you manage to deal seven points of damage, you get to put seven 1/1 black faerie rogue tokens with Flying onto the battlefield. That is pretty good for the most part.
If you paid the Prowl cost, you get to take an extra turn. In a sense, this feels like a built-in "Time Walk." Time Walk only costs one blue mana and two colorless mana. For the price of six, you get to play two different awesome abilities. In this respect, an extra turn goes a long way.
One can ask: How do you get the most out of this card?
There are some ways. One would be to have "Oona's Blackguard" on the battlefield before you play Notorious Throng. Those 1/1 black faerie rogue tokens will get a +1/+1 counter. They will be 2/2 with Flying. On top of that, if they deal damage to a player, that player discards a card. This can be combined with the black enchantment known as "Megrim." For each card they discard, they suffer two points of damage via Megrim.
With "Scion of Oona," those faerie rogues would get +1/+1 and Shroud. It means that they cannot be the target of spells or abilities. With "Sprite Noble," those faerie rogues would get +0/+1 because they have Flying. By tapping Sprite Noble, they would get +1/+0. With these cards, you can really beef up those black faerie rogue tokens.
Overall, Notorious Throng is pretty impressive as you get to put black faerie rogue tokens along with being able to take an extra turn. If you have certain cards on the battlefield, you can get a lot out of Notorious Throng.
