"Kinsbaile Borderguard" is a 1/1 white kithkin soldier printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Morningtide." From the looks of Kinsbaile Borderguard, you are encouraged to build a deck that revolves around kithkins and soldiers for the most part. Depending on how you build the deck, you could get much use out of the Kinsbaile Borderguard.
The converted mana cost for Kinsbaile Borderguard is three. You need two white mana and one colorless mana to bring Kinsbaile Borderguard from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Kinsbaile Borderguard can do, the casting cost is pretty well worth it. However, it is best that you have a few specific creatures on the battlefield before casting Kinsbaile Borderguard first.
What does Kinsbaile Borderguard do in the first place?
This card has two great abilities. The first ability puts X +1/+1 counters on Kinsbaile Borderguard as soon as it enters the battlefield. X is equal to the number of kithkin creatures on the battlefield under your control. If you have five kithkins on the battlefield, Kinsbaile Borderguard receives five +1/+1 counters. Effectively, it becomes a 6/6 creature.
Also, there are cards that do beef up soldiers. You can combine this with "Captain of the Watch" which gives all soldiers under your control +1/+1 and Vigilance. Kinsbaile Borderguard would get an extra +1/+1 along with Vigilance. "Honor of the Pure" gives all white creatures +1/+1. That is a good way to beef up Kinsbaile Borderguard as well.
With "Cenn's Tactician," you can pay one white mana, tap it, and put a +1/+1 counter on Kinsbaile Borderguard. In this respect, it will allow Kinsbaile Borderguard to double block. Cenn's Tactician allows your creatures to block an additional creature if they have at least one +1/+1 counter on it. Also, this is a good way to add more +1/+1 counters on the Kinsbaile Borderguard.
Should Kinsbaile Borderguard get sent to the graveyard, you get to put X 1/1 white kithkin soldier tokens on the battlefield. X is equal to the number of counters on it. It does not have to be just +1/+1 counters. If you combine that with cards such as Captain of the Watch, those tokens become 2/2 tokens. Also, you can use Cenn's Tactician to beef up Kinsbaile Borderguard with +1/+1 counters. That increases the number of 1/1 white kithkin soldier tokens that can be placed on the battlefield should Kinsbaile Borderguard get sent to the graveyard.
Overall, Kinsbaile Borderguard is pretty effective provided that you have kithkins and soliders. With the right interaction of the cards, Kinsbaile Borderguard becomes a vital card in your deck.
