There is a story of a little boy that was walking by the sea and he saw hundreds of starfish being washed into the sand from the sea. He began to stoop down and pick up one starfish at a time and toss them back into the sea so they could live. An elderly man was observing him and said to him: "You are crazy thinking you can save them all." He stooped down and picked up another one and tossed it back into the sea and as he did, he looked at the elderly man and said: "I helped that one live." We cannot change the world but we can change one.
The best way to help someone change is to tell them about Jesus Christ and let Him take care of them from there. After you tell them about Christ, you may have an opportunity to help them learn about being a Christian and that will improve their chances, but you have to get them to Christ first. Many people, once they receive Jesus Christ, see their lives begin to be transformed, little by little.
You don't change a person by thinking you can tell them how to do it. There are teachable people, but you have to earn the right to teach them by loving them first. Change is never overnight and takes a long time. Sometimes you invest in people and never see the change, but the change eventually happens. The object is to plant as many seeds as possible and pray that God gives the increase to the labor that was done.
Change is a work only done by God and He uses us to help them to change! If each one reached one, we would have a whole lot more to work with on His team and we could reach many for God and in turn, many would change! We sometimes think we have all the answers, but only one can claim that statement and that is God and He can give those solutions that want it bad enough!
Change begins with the person you look at in the mirror every morning! We can help change people, but we have to make sure we focus on ourselves. The most difficult person to change is the face we shave or the hair we blow dry. Changing the world one person at a time begins with us because we have some control over our lives and this is the best place to start.
