Video game reviews: FarmVille on Facebook

by Kathrine Mills

Created on: October 23, 2009

Whether you start through a friend invite or through word of mouth, Facebook's FarmVille will hook you in before you know it. The longer you play the more stuff you accumulate on your farm and the higher level you get. They have grown substantially since they first came out and now have generated many expansions, helpful farm vehicles, and now even levels to master of each crop instead of just moving on to new levels and new crops. Recently, they began releasing new buildings with a purpose such as Dairy Farms which allow you to milk up to 20 cows at once! With all the diverse new realistic features to this addicting application, you'll be surprised you haven't gotten a virtual farmers tan!

Let look at the basics of the game. The purpose is to build a farm which utilizes at least one of the 3 options they give you:

A. Growing crops through the plant, harvest, plow, and repeat system
B. Growing an orchard of fruit producing trees which only require harvesting and repeating.
C. Farming animal products such as truffles, wool, and eggs.

You are able to combine all three of these, but many focus mainly on one and just dabble in the rest. 1. Gaining points:

The reason you want to Gain points is because the more you gain, the higher the level you achieve, which then allows you to plant better crops and make more money. More money allows you to buy farming equipment, buildings, and invest in more expensive crops. Ultimately you also get ribbons which give you bonuses as well as your friends when they celebrate with you.

2. Ribbons:

Ribbons really aren't crucial to your game, however, the more friends you get to visit your site the more help you can get on your farm and the more cash you get. There are four different ribbons to get for each different category ranging from yellow to blue, indicating how far along the goal you have gotten. The categories include every thing from the amount of friends how many friends you've help to how many flowers you've harvested. These 16 different goals will take you quite a while to complete and for most, it isn't a real focus. However, the more you do complete there will be a special metal displayed next to your picture on the application for others to see your accomplishments. In order to achieve
