Video games were created so that normal people could have hours of fun without moving off their couch. They were also created so that normal people could experience different worlds that looked so real you thought you were in the game. Now tell me this, would some of the best graphically engineered games be nearly as fun if they didn't have those amazingly realistic worlds and creatures? For example, how many people would play World of Warcraft if the graphics were even a little worse? Now I'm not saying that a game such as Wii Sports isn't fun but to be honest, the graphics just plain stink. If Nintendo had worked a little harder with those graphics then Wii Sports would probably have gone off the charts in sales. Games today are getting more and more complex, and most people like that. So why would you go back to playing Pac Man when there are games that are much funner and are so much better looking?
Now game play is also important, but graphics are a key essential in making sure that the game play is fun, a great game such as Call of Duty ( any in the series) depends greatly on the graphics element to capture those real war-time scenes. The game wouldn't have nearly been what is it today if the backgrounds or the people had looked crummy. Sure their have been great games that were amazingly fun, such as Zelda the Windwaker game. Those games are quite short on the list though and the list is growing ever shorter as computers become more able to generate higher capacity graphics. The Xbox-360 has done a great job in creating off the hook graphics and amazing game play for games such as Halo 3 etc., and look how successful some of those games have been. If game designers want their products to sell in this recession then they'd better start incorporating higher quality graphics into their games.
Of course there will always be people who want to stick to old time games that are made with very low quality programming languages. Those people should really try out some of the newer games, it's time that those old games are renovated a little. In conclusion one can clearly see that newer games with better Graphics attribute greatly to a games success and also boost the fun you get from the game.
