Magic the Gathering card analysis: Wound Reflection

"Wound Reflection" is a black enchantment spell printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known as "Shadowmoor." This is one of the five reflection cards printed in Shadowmoor. The other four cards are: "Boon Reflection," "Thought Reflection," "Mana Reflection," and "Rage Reflection." Each card has a theme. The theme doubles the effect of some certain stipulation. In the case of Would Reflection, you can use this in a black control deck or an aggressive deck with black. With the right cards on the battlefield, you can do a lot of damage with Wound Reflection.

The converted mana cost for Wound Reflection is six. You will need one black mana and five colorless mana to bring Wound Reflection from your hand and onto the battlefield. For what Wound Reflection can do, the casting cost is well worth it. Black does have all right mana acceleration for the most part. You should be able to bring out Wound Reflection on the battlefield fast enough. Keep in mind that it is an enchantment spell and that it can be affected by anything that targets enchantments.

What does Wound Reflection do in the first place?

At the beginning of the end step, each opponent loses life equal to the life s/he lost this turn. If you managed to deal ten points of damage to an opponent this turn, s/he will lose ten more points. Points of damage does equal to loss of life but not the other way around. So far, this is good for any aggressive or control deck that uses black cards. However, there are ways to get some major bang out of Wound Reflection.

One would be a combination of "Boon Reflection," "Sanguine Bond," "Tainted Sigil," and a few life gaining cards. Boon Reflection doubles the amount of life you gain whenever you gain life points. If you play a spell that gives you six points of life, Boon Reflection doubles it to twelve. Sanguine Bond causes an opponent to lose X points of life whenever you gain X points of life. Tainted Sigil can be sacrificed to let you gain life points equal to the amount of life points lost this turn by all players.

In this respect, say that you managed to play a spell that gained you seven points of life. Boon Reflection doubled that to fourteen points of life. Afterwards, you target an opponent and cause him/her to lose fourteen points of life via Sanguine Bond. Then, you sacrifice Tainted Sigil to gain fourteen points of life due to the opponent losing that much life. Sanguine Bond will make an opponent lose an additional fourteen points of life. At the end, Wound Reflection will make the opponent lose twenty-eight points of life. This combination alone can beat an opponent in a matter of turns.

In an aggressive deck, you can keep attacking opponents while Wound Reflection is on the battlefield. If you are doing an aggressive red and black deck, you can combine Rage Reflection and Wound Reflection together. Rage Reflection gives all of your creatures Double Strike. If you attack with a creature that has the power of five and your opponent is defenseless, s/he takes ten points of damage because of Double Strike. At the end, the opponent loses ten points of life via Wound Reflection.

Overall, Wound Reflection is a great enchantment card to have for the most part. As long as you have methods and combinations to make opponents lose life points, you will definitely get a lot out of Wound Reflection.
