"Thunderblust" is a 7/2 red elemental creature printed as a rare for the Magic the Gathering expansion set known "Eventide." From the looks of it, Thunderblust is an interesting creature that goes good in an aggressive red deck or a red shock and burn deck. Thunderblust is one of those cards that spell out "ruthless aggression." You are encouraged to be ruthlessly aggressive against opponents if you have cards such as Thunderblust
The converted mana cost for Thunderblust is five. You will need three red mana and two colorless mana to bring Thunderblust out onto the battlefield. For what Thunderblust can do, the mana cost is very reasonable enough for the most part. Remember, you need to play aggressively if you want to get the most out of Thunderblust. This is a card with abilities that go good in just about any aggressive red deck.
What does Thunderblust do in the first place?
The first ability of Thunderblust is that it has Haste. As soon as it enters the battlefield, you can go ahead and attack with Thunderblust. Haste means that Thunderblust does not suffer from summoning sickness. You do not have to wait until the next turn in order to attack with Thunderblust. But, this is not the only ability that Thunderblust has.
It also has Persist. Should Thunderblust be sent to the graveyard, it comes back onto the battlefield with a -1/-1 counter on it. It has Haste again. It means you can attack with Thunderblust. Keep in mind that this -1/-1 counter is important.
Should there be a -1/-1 counter on Thunderblust, it gets Trample. Trample and Haste are two abilities important for any aggressive deck player. With Trample, Thunderblust deals damage even if an opponent blocks. In this sense, Thunderblust becomes something like "Ball Lightning" or "Blistering Firecat." However, you do not have to sacrifice Thunderblust at the end of the turn. However, there are means of getting more out of Thunderblust.
In an aggressive red deck, you can play something like "Rage Reflection." That enchantment gives all of your creatures Double Strike. In this respect, you can give Thunderblust Double Strike. You can attack and do up to fourteen points of damage. Trample and Double Strike makes a good combination in regards for aggressive creatures.
If your opponent blocks, s/he is taking a good amount of damage. If you want, you can also add in the red and white sorcery spell known as "Waves of Aggression." If your opponent is defenseless, you can virtually wipe out his/her life points in a single turn. Waves of Aggression lets you untap all your creatures that have attacked this turn. You get an additional attack phase and a main phase. In this respect, you get two attack phases. In one turn, you can deal twenty-eight points of combat damage to an opponent with Thunderblust combined with Waves of Aggression and Double Strike.
Overall, the Thunderblust is an excellent card for any red aggressive deck. If you plan on using cards such as Ball Lightning and/or Blistering Firecat, Thunderblust is a card definitely work checking out as well.
