Homeless in America
She clutches her baby to her chest, crying softly into her blanket.
She's so tired, not ready or prepared for this gauntlet.
They let her stay, but only for a little while, no beds they said.
She took what they offered, no thoughts for what lay ahead.
This day her baby will eat and be safe and warm,
No strings attached, tonight she won't have to perform.
Her mother won't answer her phone, her family doesn't care.
No one to help her, her life on the streets, one long nightmare.
They are Homeless in America, the supposed land of plenty....
