Poetry: Cheating

by Dallas Burkham

Created on: October 21, 2009

There remains a little message,
that sits on your page,
saying, "true love never dies."
*
I think you are mistaken,
sweetheart...
TRUE LOVE HOLDS NO LIES.

Love isn't true
when your sneaking around,
or pushing some one far away.
*
And love doesn't wait
when you've "had enough"
and want to call it a day.

Love keeps on moving
when you shut it all out,
and finds somewhere else to go.

*
Where it ends up,
I wish I could tell,
but we have no right to know.

When given the gift,
you hold it tight-
never drinking it fast.
*
The best thing to do,
is sing towards the present,
and crumble away the past.

Never take it for granted,
keep promises true,
and never start drifting away.
*
For when you take care,
and give all you have,
Love will kindly stay.

I hold something dearly,
here in my soul,
that lifts me up to the sky.
*
There's only one person
who feels the same way.
Nobody will ever know why.

God sent me an angel
from somewhere above-
he knew it was about time.
*
And for the same reason,
he sees him the same.
Within us our love will shine.

So next time you think
you deserve what i was given,
remember the cold hard past. *
You used him all up,
and thought nothing of it,
and why? I wont even ask.

How could you not see
what he layed out for you,
without thinking twice in return?
*
Love doesn't just give,
and you cant just receive-
thats something you not yet have learned.

I'm not here to fight.
Im not here to win.
All I ask is 2 things.
*
Sit back for a second,
Then look all around-
Your refusal to let go stings.

Your chance came around..
then another, and again-
and now you feel so alone.
*
But he hasn't truly
left you yet-
he still picks up that phone.

As you threw it away,
for the twenty third time,
I'm sure you never would think.
*
You can only push someone away
for so long, before the love starts to sink.

I wish he could see
how true I could be,
how much I long for his touch.
*
I breathe him in,
I laugh through his soul,
I need this boy so much.

But seasons changed,
you played with his mind,
and now he holds a fear.
*
That its only a short
matter of time,
until it becomes unclear.

As this poem ends,
I want you to know
that I never thought I would say,
*
that the way he talks,
and the way that he acts,
Kills me in the very worst way.

I guess its something
I must forget,
and stuff into the sink.
*
Its not my place
to tell you this,
but I hope next time you will think.

If it weren't for you,
he would never be mine,
and I would be so lost.
*
I will wake up tomorrow,
showing my love,
so I will never pay that cost.
