How to succeed in your literature class
No matter what level of school you are at taking a literature class can be a taunting class if you haven't taken any before or aren't sure what to do. There are several things that you can do to make sure that you do as well as possible in the class. If you want to succeed just follow a few basic tips and the literature class shouldn't be a problem.
Go to Class and Take Notes
One of the most important steps to take to do well in any class is to make sure you are there. It is also important to be on time. If you aren't in class, or are a little late, you might miss important information or miss quizzes and writing assignments that will impact your grade later. If you have to write any papers for class then you really need to be there so that you can get all the points the teachers and other students make about reading assignments so that writing your papers later will be much easier. Also be sure to take notes so that you can look back over them while working on papers.
Do all your Reading Assignments
It is really important to do your reading assignments before class and do them well. For this reason it is doubly important to make sure you have all the books you need for the class. Be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to do each reading and take notes while you are reading. Also be sure to write down any thoughts you have while reading. If you don't want to write them in your book (which is a good idea unless you want to resell them) then use post-it notes to keep track of your thoughts. Also hi-light significance passages so that you can quote or point them out in class and find them again when it is paper writing time.
Ask Questions and Don't be afraid to Share your thoughts
No question is a stupid question. Of course you might feel silly asking the question but you should still ask it because there are probably other people in the class who are wondering the same exact thing. If you feel too uncomfortable during class then ask the teacher after. Teachers have office hours for a reason or you can always email them. Teachers often appreciate questions because it shows that you care and are interested in your subject matter.
