Peace and quiet quivers in the early hours of Monday morning
While the ash gray clouds in the sky give the night a ghoulish glare.
A moth flutters by my head dancing to a beautiful note
As I write these words down with my blue paper mate pen.
The crickets are chirping and a owl hoots
As a skunk scours for food in the lawn across the deserted street.
Suddenly a bang from a fire cracker snaps my dog from his nap
As the TV from the neighbor's downstairs window clicks on
Giving rise to a conversation between two characters
Too muffled to make out through a single plate window.
My dog has just laid his head down in attempt to sleep again
When CRACK! CRACK! CRACK! Three more fire crackers snap in a row.
His head pops up, his ears arch, his eyes wide and determined
To find out the cause behind those blasts;
But exhaustion from the day's adventure proves too much
so he lays his furry black head down again
to await the conclusion of my wild untamed thoughts.
Finishing these last few crucial lines that are floating in my mind
I pick up my journal, pen, keys and pipe while calling my dog
I open the vanilla white downstairs door.
Ushering him up the stairs, we enter my apartment
To answer the call of my soft queen sized bed.
