One of the toughest things to do is catch the eye of the person you would like to get to know a whole lot better. Sure, they may already know you but, how to get them to really notice you and be interested enough to pursue something can be easier said than done. From my personal experience, it is often better to temper trying too hard with staying true to yourself.

Cross the Sexual Divide

When there is a lot of competition vying for the same prize, the thing to do is find a different approach. Most people are just a little too attached to gender defined roles. There is no reason to fall into predefined roles.

While women do play pool, most people consider this to be a guy's sport. A woman that can offer some serious competition at a man's sport is a turn-on. The trick is to come close enough to winning without actually doing it. You wouldn't want to emancipate the poor guy. It's pretty hard to win somebody over when they feel threatened. On the other hand, after a few dates winning shows that they are "a great teacher".

Conversely, even though many of the world's greatest chefs are men cooking is still seen as a chick thing. Being able to whip up a great batch of muffins for the bake sale is sure to get some notice. Especially, if it comes from a guy that is better known for running with the football.

Do What You Do Well

A person that is not focused on the task at hand is not focused on anything. Keeping one eye on that guy or girl of your dreams, and the other on whatever it is you are trying to impress them with will not fool anybody. Being confident about yourself means that you won't do things just to impress others. You are doing them because there is some sort of personal payoff. The output of whatever it was you were doing will automatically draw the attention back to you without you even trying.

Make Yourself Available

It is really hard to justify feeling for a person that complains about no good fish in the sea if they never go for a swim. It's like that old joke: "God, you never answer my prayers." "What do you mean, my child?" "I've been praying for a large amount of money, and you've never come through." "That isn't true, my child. I keep sending you the winning numbers but, you never buy the lottery ticket."

Keep in mind that catching the attention of the opposite sex should be done with a bit of foresight. You may not always want what you catch. Bending over backwards to please an ideal of what men or women are supposed to like may mean straying too far away from what is interesting to you, in the first place. If you go to unusual places to meet somebody, it may turn out that those are the places they like to be in most. If you aren't comfortable with that, you have only yourself to blame for it. It is far better to explore what gives you meaning and joy. Then, the person you attract will have a much better chance of turning into that life partner you were looking for.
