Why some jobs require a higher standard of personal behavior

The reason why some jobs require a higher standard of personal behavior is because the persons who hold these jobs represent to varying degrees, another person, an image, an entity, or a belief system. Their personal behavior therefore, when seen by others, can easily be associated with that person, image, entity or belief system for whom and which they work.

In addition to the above, if their position requires that they have some degree of contact with or exposure to the public, their personal behavior has even more chances of being noticed and judged by others and thus requires the need to uphold the standards related to whom and what they represent.

The very nature of certain other jobs are such that people who hold them often have or acquire some ability to exercise some form of influence on the public (or a certain category of the public such as children and youth for example) either good or bad or if anything neutral.

An even higher standard of personal behavior is required when the job is obtained through public elections or some kind of voting process. Examples include: political figures, publicly elected officials, persons in judicial positions, and high ranking government officials. It often also applies in general, to people who work closely with or around the leaders and executives in such positions.

The bar of expected personal behavior gets raised yet another notch for jobs in the realm of spiritual and moral guidance and leadership. A much higher standard of personal behavior is required for persons who are spiritual and moral leaders and/or guides in some way or another, because they are often viewed as teachers and role models where social and moral standards of behavior are involved.

With leaders in general, improper or unacceptable personal behavior has the potential to create divisions among the flock of followers or supporters and often times, some members of their group or community may choose to leave because they feel that their trust and/or belief system was betrayed in some way.

Even where businesses are concerned certain employees' personal behavior can have the potential to adversely affect the business and even drive away clients and customers; and it's not just about negative or rude (*) behavior towards customers and clients.

Imagine a heath spa where some trainers go out regularly for a smoke and are either seen by clients or come back in smelling like smoke and nicotine. What kind of an image can one say that they are upholding
