I use to think online dating was not a good idea. I thought that when two people got together it should be face to face, not through a computer screen. I use to think that online dating was just a way to escape reality. A way to get away from everyday issues that you have in a regular relationship. It seemed to me to be a way to say a person was in a relationship but they really weren't in reality. Until my brother. He is a real online dating story. He started talking to a girl from online. First they talked over instant messages and emails. They eventually exchanged phone numbers and would talk on the phone all night long. They talked on the phone for over a year and he was totally committed to her. Not only was it an online relationship but it was also a long distance relationship. I use to tell him to go out, have fun, meet girls and his response would be I already have a girlfriend.

They finally decided to make plans and meet. She decided to come here. She ended up staying here for a month and a half. My brother actually found the perfect person for him. They are now engaged. She comes here when she can and stays a couple of weeks and than he goes there. They take turns going back and forth to each other. It's sweet but heartbreaking when they have to leave each other. They are now working things out to move in together. This all from starting to talk on an instant message.

I'm still not saying the online dating scene is for me. To be honest I really do not think that I could do it. That's not to say that I have not met guys from the online. I have before but it always seemed to end badly. It's just not for me. As I think it is not for everyone, but my brother and his girlfriend are proof that it can work. But both people have to be willing to sacrifice, because it takes a lot of commitment to one another. If you have trust issues this type of relationship is not for you. It's not like you can run over and see the person whenever you want too. I would say though if your talking to someone online who peaks your interests maybe you should keep talking and see where it leads. That person may just be "The One."
