Poetry: Battles

by Matthew Blackmon

Created on: October 21, 2009

Harken! Here rise the cry of battle near!
As lightning strikes they march towards twilight
Their arms prepare, "gather swiftly your gear!"
Hastily young men now scramble to fight

Death looming close: frightened souls tremble in fear
The Hero bravest stands before them all
His words honest, commanding them to hear
The hope is triumphant so good their call

Just look! Rising, shining, their armour gleams
Giving pure wrath against this cruel new foe
Begins burning their minds: this march of dreams
Holier still of eyes piercing night's glow

Steady and firm they march as one accord
Patient they wait for the display of might
The good hero stands forth with his firm word
And thus the foe now takes to fright and plight

The true battle is won come celebrate
Those lives who died to fulfill our great need
Our joy rises to thus commemorate
Give thanks for this valor and bravest deed
