What to consider before undertaking a construction project

The general guidelines to consider before undertaking a construction project. The next steps that i am going to share with you will make your project reality.

1)Architect/Designer:Since you know what your project is consult a professional. In doing so you will have all options placed before you and will know what you have to consider.

2)Permits:You have a stamped set of prints from your architect go to the courthouse and file for a building permit. The other option is to let the contractor that you hire get the permit.

3)Hire A Contractor:Have at least 3 extra sets of blueprints made and take them to 3 different contractors for estimates.

4)Your Home:Realize that no matter what size project you are undertaking there will be inconveniences. If this is an inside project put down some runners on your floor this will help tremendously. Consider the fact that everything inside your home will get dirty and dusty. The yard will get messy and the driveway will be used so consider parking for everyone.

5)The thought of adding to the value of your home should always be taken into consideration with any construction project. The last thing that you want to do is delete your property value. Whether your construction project is interior or exterior, large or small, remember resale value.

6)Confrontation you might as well prepare yourself for bumpy roads. The construction project that you have undertaking will more than likely run into problems, make sure you have the contractor price any changes to the project before doing the work. Realize that every project runs into some sort of problem.

7)Home Owner:Do not allow yourself to be the problem handle all of your responsibilities in a timely manner. What ever you do, do not add to the project in the middle of construction. There might be some modifications due to unforeseen circumstances, however you as the homeowner should not add to the problems.

8)Budget:The budget that you have set is very important. Make sure that in your budget you have allowed 10% of the cost of the project for unforeseen complications. Try to stay within your budget, by not adding to the job.

These are all things you as a homeowner will need to consider for any construction project that you may undertake. They are general guidelines that will put you on the right tract to cover any problems before they arise. The reason for this set of guidelines, it will allow for the professionals to be held responsible for their part in the project. Make sure that you read all contracts more than once and give the contract time to register in your thoughts. Many people have been taken advantage of due to contracts.
