New Years Eve in Oklahoma City

It does not get any bigger during the holiday in Oklahoma City than Opening Night, a New Years Eve tradition since 1987. Set in historic Bricktown Opening Night is a family affair. Produced by The Arts Council of Oklahoma City, Opening Night has something for everyone. It is as close to Times Square as you will get in Oklahoma.

A fun time for friends and family to get together and bring in the New Year, Opening Night is always packed. You can feel the excitement in the air as people from all over come together to celebrate this special and festive time. There is live music all night and many places in the downtown area feature performers throughout the evening. There are also a plethora of street performers. Ever rode on a trolley? There are trolley rides all night. There is face painting for the kids and an amazing fireworks display that rivals many bigger cities. New York City is not the only major city with a ball that drops. Oklahoma City is proud to have one too. The countdown to midnight starts at 11:30 p.m. The gorgeous fireworks begin at midnight (New Years) on the dot.

As it is always cold, Bricktown boasts many fine restaurants to choose from if you need to get out of the cold or if your tummy is simply rumbling. Alcohol is not allowed at Opening Night. No need to bring party supplies, there are places set up where you can buy all the goodies you will need for the night.

I cannot think of anything better to do on December 31st than attend Opening Night. It is the best party in town, you can eat the tastiest food at some of the greatest restaurants in the state, and best of all, there is no clean up for you the next day! A great time for the entire family.

Opening Night begins at 7 p.m. and runs until midnight. Wristbands can be purchased for a cheap $10, ($8 in advance). Children under 5 get in free. You can't beat that! It would cost you so much more to have a party at home! Advance tickets can be found all over the Oklahoma City Metro area.
