What you do before will determine how successful you be be during. This tip is the strategy behind the success of business presentations. It is a myth to think that business professionals must be gifted to be a successful presenter. It is also a myth to rely on delivery as the mechanism for success. Here is the 3 step game plan:
* Planning- Planning consists of the 3 W's...who , why and what in that order. Who is your audience? What do they need to know? What is the politics you must be aware of? If the opening minute does not satisfy their interest and attention and does not give them a reason to listen, saying nothing well is irrelevant. Planning also consists of clean power point slides that are not cluttered. Less is better. Planning is also preparing for questions from the audience. Given their base of interest and knowledge, what questions will they ask?
* Development- This is the actual subject matter based on audience needs. Given a 20 presentation, plan on a process called 191. One minute for the opening, nine mi nutes for the body and one minute for the close with the balance for questions.
* Delivery- If the first two steps are successful, the delivery is less important. If people are getting what they want and can follow it because it is organizationally sound, the mechanics are not as important. The key is eye contact with the goal of looking at the audience 90 percent of the time couple dwith the appropriate voice techniques of power, pace, pitch and pause.
In closing please remember: We look better on the outside that we feel on the inside.
