"Sad Little Lives"
Born to the cold
A baby cat cries
To a world that is deaf
And has half-open eyes.
His Mother is helpless
As frozen she lies
His litter-mates suckle
With blind little eyes
They nestle in closer
And nudge at her teat
Begging some warmth
And a calming heart-beat
He knows they are hungry
So he cries out with pain
His voice carries nowhere
In the frozen winter rain
He'll never know a human voice
Or feel the warmth of a bed
He'll never play with stuffed little mice
Or get scratches on his head
He'll never purr his melody
In a loving person's ear
He's crying for his brother's lives
Hoping someone will hear.
He'll never grow to rule a house
As 'Prince upon the Pillow'
He'll never purr himself to sleep
In the warmth of a window sill
He'll never play a game of chase
Or hear the children's giggles
As he pounces on a shoe-lace foe
And anything else that wiggles
He'll never pester the family dog
While riding on her tail
He'll never leave the frozen bank
Of his hungry little hell.
He screams once more, and then he's done
He knows he cries in vain
He nestles into his mother's arms
To die in the frozen rain.

Sad Little Lives
The cold spring morning reached to my soul
as his hand stood out asking for but a piece of coin
and
The sky's a rusty razor raining suicide and sadness
Hanging heavily above like the picture of perfect despair
And resting
She walked along the promenade
With a prolonged gestation of pounding thoughts
The sun was dying spreading blood in the western
by Asif Joosub
Bright lights in the middle of the room
With secret dark corners
Hidden passages filled with gloom
A pleasant party outside
Deep
