It is great that you have decided to buy an iPod. IPod is one of the greatest inventions in the music industry. It allows you to carry your complete music library wherever you go. If you are a music lover, this is probably a device that you cannot do without. IPod is a digital music device it cannot play cds, so what do you do of all the music cds that you have collected over the years or what if someone gifts you a music cd. Fear not, this tutorial will guide you to copy your music cds to your iPod.

The music cds will be downloaded to the iPod through the iTunes application. If you have not already done so, install iTunes on to your computer with the help of the installation disk that should have come along with your iPod. If you do not have a installation disk you can download it from the apple website. Now follow the simple steps below to download your music cds to your iPod.

1. Insert you music cd in you computer and wait for iTunes to come up. If iTunes does not automatically come up, manually start iTunes
2. Click on the "Import CD" button at the bottom right corner of iTunes.
3. Wait for the songs to be imported to iTunes Music Library. You will see a green check mark to indicate that the song is imported successfully. You will also hear a sound when all the songs are imported completely.
4. Check that all the properties are complete for the songs that are imported in the Music Library. This will help you to easily sort your music. If you are already connected to Internet, all tracks will come up these details.
5. Repeat these steps with all the cds that you want to copy.

The next steps will guide you to transfer all the songs to the iPod.
1. Connect you iPod to you computer using the supplied USB to FireWire cable.
2. iTunes should automatically start. If it does come up, manually start iTunes.
3. If you iPod is set to auto-sync all the songs will be transferred to the iPod. You can also choose to click the button "Sync Now" to initiate a manual sync. You can also drag and drop a block of songs on the iPod icon to transfer them to the iPod.

Now enjoy your new generation music player and still keeping the music cd library that you worked hard to build.
