Other than election day, Halloween is another day our politicians are popular. Ghosts, goblins, and ghouls don't seem as scary as some of the things that go on in politics. And, there's always room for a laugh or two when you make these trendy costumes of our popular political figures.

American Presidents

Bush and Cheney masks were the craze last year. This year, there are several Obama and Biden masks to choose from. Dressed these masks up with a dark suit and you can double as the Commander in Chief.

There are other presidential options from John Adams to Woodrow Wilson. Bill Clinton, Abraham Lincoln and George Washington are still popular options. Bill Clinton masks are still available in stores and online. To be honest Abe, you simply need a dark suit, tall hat and beard. For the Founding President, knickers, long white dress socks, a white wig and Colonial coat fit the bill. For those physically disabled adults, these options are open as well. Simple decorations to your wheelchair or canes will add extra style to the look.

Candidates

While McCain and Huckabee masks are available, it's not just a man's world. Hilary Clinton and Palin costumes are popular as well. With the masks, business suits complete the costume. However, for those who want a more personalized Palin look, the costume is easy to make and outfit options are endless. You can go for the star spangled bikini or hockey mom outfits. The classic Palin costume would not be complete without an updo wig or styled hair and glasses.

Political Mascots

The Donkey and the Elephant have served as symbols of America's two largest political parties for over a century. Animal masks can be found at most large costume shops and can be bought online.

Secret Service

The men and women in charge of the Man in Charge are great Halloween costume options as well. For that G-man look, a dark suit, ear piece and dark shades complete the look. For those ladies wanting to add some spice to their secret service costume, a short suit, buits and a garter/holster will do the trick.

Uncle Sam and Mrs. Sam

Declare Halloween as your own independence day with simple Uncle Sam or sexy Mrs. Sam outfits. For your Uncle Sam costume, add the classic stars and stripes hat with any combination of red, white and blue clothing. Don't forget the white hair and goatee. As for Mrs. Sam, a short red, white and blue striped skirt with blue vest will work well with the class stars and striped hat. Star spangled pumps and sexy pantyhose will compliment the number.

Lady Liberty

As a compliment to the Uncle Sam costume, this option doesn't have to be for ladies only. You can make your costume sexy or traditional. A great costume Lady Liberty can be purchased or simply made from things around the house. Just remember the basics- drape/toga, torch, crown, sandals, and book.

Couples/Groups

There are also group and couple options for costumes. Couples can dress as running mates, Clinton/Obama or Palin/McCain. Or they can come as members of a Tea Party. They can come as protestors of some made-up cause - ie. Protecting Endangered Species of Honest Politicians.
