Whether speaking on the phone
Or tackle a task
I change my shirt, shoes, coat
But I'm stuck with this mask
I'd like to take it off
and put it with the waste
But even when i get it off
Another's in it's place
They're heavy and ugly
And keeps me weary
If the judging would stop
I'd show you the real me
But the mask stays on
Each day and each night
In the car, on the bus
even when I take flight
Some masks are well built
Some are just a sore sight
Some tight some loose
Some fit just right
Some glow like candles
Some dull like a wreath
One day soon I'll show you
What's hidden underneath

the cracked layers
of his contrived persona,
