Do you have to be baptised to go to heaven?

To prove it's worth in christianity, the physical act of water baptism was already put in place by the Jews. It's place in that era was for purification and or as an initiation rite for converts into Judaism. In other words it had ever existed in one form or the other.

But John the Baptist came baptising, he took it from the level it was ie the private pratice to public practice and injected new revolutionary and spiritual dimensions into it . These spiritual dimensions shot it's value into the skies. To many he poured old wine into into new bottles.

To add to John's efforts at retrieving water baptism from the private / family altar practice, Christ the saviour lifted it yet to the glorious plane it is occupying today. Today, water baptism is not only regarded as a commitment to God's law but also commemorative of the death of Christ on the cross of calvary.

Water baptism is no longer a passing milestone in brother John's transitional ministry which paved the way for the arrival of the messianic ministry, rather it has become a permanent landmark in Christianity today. Moreover , the baptisms done after the baptism of John is better, greater and glorious.[Romans 6:3-4]

There are many valuable lessons to learn from water baptism which earned it a place in the scheme of things in heavenly places. Thanks to the transitional ministry of John the Baptist, which introduced Christ the king to the world, as well as water baptism. His ministry was transitional, so was also his baptism ,it could not pass the test of time in the arena when Christ arrived. No wonder the believers in Ephesus who were baptised in John's ministry, went back to the water to be baptised under the ministry of the saviour as Christians.[John 1;29-34 ] Acts 19 3-5]. Mathew 28; 19 ].

The glorious nature of Christian baptism ie baptism done under the ministry of Christ as opposed to the ministry of John the baptist could be traced further in the fact that John's baptism was a shadow and not the substance for the substance [Jesus] is superior to the shadow. It was a shadow of better things to come [Hebrews 10;1, 9;11,8;5 ]

The question is, now that Christ came, saw and truly conquered in all ramifications , why should people still settle for the shadow,? for baptism that does not meet the Christian standard, ie the standard left behind by Christ himself when He bowed down to the feet of John and received a heart warming confirmation from heaven that this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.
