What to look for when buying a used camp trailer

You can enjoy your holidays in the outdoors simply and easily using a trailer tent. They are designed to be easily put up and taken down, a feature that proves very handy when in a rush. A good trailer tent should also be very sturdy and last many years, meaning purchasing one is an economically sound decision.

Although initially more expensive than a standard tent, the costs recoup very quickly depending on how much use you get out of it. For a few hundred dollars you can pick up a lower grade trailer tent which is a similar price to your standard two man canvas tent. Obviously as you go up in price you will get more for your money. This is usually in the form of more equipment inside your tent and a larger berth to accommodate more people.

If you have a large family then you are going to need a bigger trailer tent that can accommodate everyone. The biggest versions are able to sleep up to eight people, sometimes even more depending on the specifications. Top end tents can cost as much as $10000, but for this you would expect to have a fully equipped kitchen with all the appliances, toilet facilities, and electricity supplies.

Trailer tents are made even more appealing because they are towable and raised off the ground. For this reason you do not suffer from many of the problems that canvas tents do with regards to dampness, coldness at night and ground water leakage. Most of them can be towed with a medium sized family car, and the smaller models can be towed with a normal or small sized car. They are very lightweight, and specifically made to take up as little room as possible.

Most trailers have a low profile, they are just like your normal trailer when full. For this reason you get good visibility because you can see out of the back window; something not on offer when towing a full size caravan. This also helps when you need to reverse at the camp site to set up. Most tents also come with a spare wheel and a jockey wheel.

A trailer tent is an economical go between for those considering moving up from a canvas tent but cannot afford a caravan. They are easy to manage and maintain, setup and take down and come with as many luxuries as you can afford. You have the durability and ruggedness of a tent but the comfort of a full caravan.
