In the Powerlink Chronicles, author Josh McDowell illustrates the power of prayer. McDowell leads us into the spiritual realms, into the vast land of Satan and his fallen angels. When a group of teens start to pray, we watch the devastation their prayers cause to demonic forces. We see Demon Ratsbane shriek with horror as the caverns shake and rocks split. Incredible results come because of their prayers, and dozens of teens at their high school come to Christ.
I'll never know exactly how my prayers affect the dark forces of the Prince of Demons, but I do know that they make a big difference. When a situation gets put on my church's prayer chain, wonderful things start to happen. My family and friends' prayers give me a lift that's better than Gatorade when I'm down. Even one person praying for me gives me a strength that surpasses the caffeine in a Starbucks coffee.
As you read, please remember that I'm not an expert on prayer. God has just shown me some that many other people have already discovered.
Perfect Phone Connection
Prayer is quite a special experience. As I stop and think, I can't help but marvel at the idea of talking to God. Think about it for a moment! I can personally talk to the Creator of the Universe. He obviously has much more important things to do. After all, people are currently starving in Sudan. Why would God care to hear about how I'm feeling impatient right now when Iran is developing a nuke and Chinese Christians are being tortured. But that's what makes prayer so wonderful! Even though He already knows, God wants me to tell Him how I'm doing right now and what I need.
Plus, there's no busy signal, and God is toll-free! I never dial a number and get, We're sorry, but the line is currently busy. For only 95 cents, Qwest will keep trying and immediately call you back when the line is no longer busy. And I'm not going to hear, The number you are calling is no longer available or has been temporarily disconnected. God has never said, Please hold, when I want to talk to Him. Any time, even during a storm when the power is out, God is available and waiting. He will talk for as long I want to. I'm not even tying up the phone line. I can talk to God without Mom saying she's expecting a call from Grandma. No long distance fees. It's the perfect setup; I just need to use it. The best phone line in the world won't do me any good unless I put it to good use.
