Apple is perhaps one of the most well known companies in the world. It is known for dominating everything from computers, to mp3 players, to operating systems. It was just recently in 2007 that Apple continued their domination by releasing the ever so popular iphone. While many consumers have jumped at the chance of owning this sleek device, the question still looms, is it any good? Through this review I hope to clarify that answer, and allow you to make the educated decision to purchase this interesting phone.
The hardware involved in the Apple iphone is very advanced compared to cheaper cell phones. The display includes a stunning 480 x 320 display. One problem with such a large screen, and a problem with many touch screen phones are smudges. A person will often find the screen of this phone coated in grime. Another important thing to note is the fact that the new 3G iphone has made a switch from metal to plastic. Most people remember the ipod and older iphone's strong metal body, so this may be a large downfall of the new model. Another important drawback is the fact that much of the old iphone hardware, like the dock, will not fit correctly with the new 3G model. The battery is fairly decent, at about 5 hours talk time on the 3G model.
The phone itself comes with a plethora of perks. The new model does include the App store, where you can purchase neat little gadgets for your phone. One bad thing about the App store is that it is closed to most developers, meaning you only receive content Apple chooses to include in the store. The touch screen keyboard leaves a bit to be desired, but does do it's job. Some other neat perks include visual voicemail, as well as a decent video recorder.
Speed on the phone is outstanding, that is, as long as you are using the new model. The first generation phone's may experience lags when browsing the internet, some time's equivalent to a snails pace. With that said, it should be stressed that when purchasing the new 3G model the speed is very good. The audio quality is also good, getting 4/5 points.
In conclusion it should be noted that if money is not an issue, a better choice for a phone would be a Blackberry. It is also important to note that with the price reduced on the iphone to a mere $200, it is well worth the money.
